I wish you were here to see this

Last Christmas, her grandmother gave her a bicycle. Despite the fact that it was the smallest regular bicycle available, she couldn't ride it then (if not for anything else, she takes after me in terms of size). This past week, I saw her pedal her cousin's tractor & thought maybe it was time to give the bicycle another go.

She wouldn't let me help her. Another trait from me. This stubborn I-want-to-do-it-myself-even-if-it-kills-me streak in her. Her insistence on doing it herself. She knocked onto the walls, she fell, she got stuck but not before long, she was circling the terrace, looking really pleased & shouting for me to look at her.

I don't know about you mums out there but this got me a little teary eyed. She seemed so grown up on the bike - what happened to my baby ? She looked ready to go to college. I wasn't even this emotional when she started to walk.

And I know her father would want to see this too.

Thank you. She can be when she doesn't act up.

Finally. I'm glad to see you here.

I would probably be a mess when that happens.
