Cannes Chronicles III - Getting off the beach chair

Here's what else we did other than being a beach bum. Drive along the French Riviera from Cannes to St Raphael - it's a beautiful landscape.

Musee de la Castre. A short walk up hill in what is considered the old town of Cannes in Suquet. The museum occupies what used to be the medieval castle of the monks of Lerins. It has a small collection of art & antiquities & a great view of the city.

Take a 15 min boat ride to the Iles de Lerins. There are 2 of them - Ste Marguerite & Ste Honorat. We visited Ste Marguerite, the bigger of the 2, with the formidable Fort St Marguerite - the former barracks is now a youth camping site & was state prison for many years - one of it's most famous or rather infamous inmate for 11 years was the Man with the Iron Mask. Some people go to the island to swim but I didn't bring our swimming gear which was a pity cos the water looked very inviting.
